Hello & Welcome
Welcome to Plant! Based in Calgary, Alberta we offer a selection of terrariums, indoor gardening and landscaping supplies, natural artwork, functional vintage goods and much more.
Yes, we call ourselves just Plant. We are that straight-forward. We believe that everyone could bring a little more of the outside in. Our goal is to bring plants to you in a beautiful and contemporary way. We are born and raised on the prairies, so we know how important it is to bring something living into our homes or offices during the off season, when the weather may not be cooperating outside. We also know that indoor plants can be fussy, so we try to combat the black thumbs out there by providing hardy varieties, appropriate vessels for specific plants, and offer clear instructions on how to maintain your miniature landscape.
The majority of our products are created right in the shop, including all of our terrariums, and a growing line of vessels and plant holders that are unique as the plants themselves. We source hand-crafted quality goods made by individuals and organizations that put quality ahead of quantity. Lastly, we are collectors of timeless, functional vintage goods, and offer an ever-changing curated selection.
We also provide workshops in our shop. From bee house building to terrarium making, each workshop is hands-on and you get to walk away with something you created, along with some new skills to impress your family and friends. (Check out our workshop schedule and learn more about our workshops)

We hope to meet you soon…
Hi, I’m Kyle Chow and here is a brief bio of how this Plant business all began…
I was born in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, and began honing my botanical skills at an early age. While working in a local gardening shop and developing my own garden plots both indoors and out, it was apparent that the horticulturist in me wasn’t going away.
After moving to Calgary in 2002, I received a Bachelor of Design from the Alberta College of Art + Design, where I majored in graphic design. I continue to contract as a graphic design for Combine Design & Communications, as well as instruct courses in graphic design and typography at my alma mater. My focus in design is based on the belief that great design thinking is built upon a solid structure, form, and experience.
In 2011, I embarked on developing Plant, where I was able to apply similar design principles in the creation of terrariums.
Now, in 2014 I am embarking on the next step for Plant, a retail shop that offers a distinct assortment of terrariums, indoor gardening materials, functional everyday objects, and a curated selection of vintage goods. The shop’s concept has been years in the making and I am very excited to open the doors to an unique environment that you’ll want to explore, just like the outdoors.
If you have any questions, please contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
I look forward to seeing you soon!
All of my work focuses on natural materials and allows the viewer to place themselves within the environments I create. It has been my lifelong passion to bring the beauty of the natural world into our living space. We spend a great amount of time and energy within four walls, and a living environment allows us to experience the outdoors when inside.
Each terrarium has been created from a selection of natural materials found within the Alberta landscape. Snapshots of past explorations through the wilderness help inform the final product, however, most of the materials and plants seem to dictate where they fall within the composition.
While the miniature ecosystems are delicate in nature, they are hardy in our homes, requiring just minimal care and natural light. I believe in making these environments accessible and easy to maintain, so that they can be enjoyed for years to come.
